  • Entry onto Part III Aboriginal Reserve

    An Aboriginal Reserve created under Part III of the Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act 1972 (WA) covers Kiwirrkurra Community and the Kiwirrkurra / Gary Junction Road between the NT Border in the East, and Jupiter Well in the West.

    Generally, non-Aboriginal people need a Permit to be on the Reserve (including to transit through).

  • Kiwirrkurra Community

    Kiwirrkurra Community and Kiwirrkurra Council Aboriginal Corporation are supported by Ngaanyatjarra Council.

Camping on Kiwirrkurra Country

With the relevant permits, you are welcome to stay at the following camping places along the Gary Junction Road.

  • Kayili - North

    Parna Ngurrupa (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC represents the Traditional Owners to the north / north east. There is no public track between the Kiwirrkurra and Ngururrpa native title determined areas.

    Ngurra Kayanta (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC represents the Traditional Owners to the north / north west. There is no track between the Kiwirrkurra and Ngurra Kayanta native title determined areas.

  • Kakarra - East

    To the East is the Northern Territory, where Traditional Owners are represented by the Central Land Council and the land is held by the Haast’s Bluff Land Trust. The Gary Junction Road becomes the Kintore Road as you travel east into the NT.

  • Yulparirra - South

    Ngaanyatjarra Council represents Traditional Owners to the south. Yanangu Ngaanyatjarra Parna (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC is the native title corporation.

    There is no track between the Kiwirrkurra and Ngaanyatjarra native title areas.

  • Wilurarra - West

    Jamukurnu-Yapalikurnu Aboriginal Corporation (Western Desert Lands) RNTBC represents the Traditional Owners from the Martu Native Title Determination Area to the west.

    The Gary Junction Road enters Martu country as you travel west from Kiwirrkurra.
